The Reviewist was born and raised in southern California in the late 1970′s. At the age of eight he began his musical studies, initially with lessons on the piano and violin. After several years, he moved to the trumpet, and then finally the Tuba. By the age of 16 he was playing both as the principal Tuba for a local symphony orchestra, as well as occasionally serving as the back-up for the professional orchestra in the area.
During high school The Reviewist learned and subsequently performed publicly on many instruments including the Piano, Tuba, Trombone, Baritone, French Horn, Saxophone, Percussion, Voice, and the Bagpipes. After a time he was asked to be Drum-Major of the Highschool, as well as the local Pipe-band where one of his major roles was to instruct and lead on and off the stage.
At 17 he started a website called Virtual Pipes, where he shared his compositions, as well as transcriptions of other’s music, for the Bagpipes. Within a year he had over 1 million hits on the site, and was in contact with several of the major pipebands around the world to compose and arrange for them.
In 1999, The Reviewist moved to Santiago, Chile to serve and teach those of that area (yes, he is fluent in Spanish). While there he met many peoples who changed him forever. He also taught himself the guitar. He stayed for two years, and when he returned everything he had done before was gone.
After coming back to the United States, The Reviewist completed a B.A. in Music from one of the top music programs in the country. While there he met his wife, and together they started a family. Unfortunately, real life made it impossible to produce, perform, or even enjoy music for 8 years…
This site is his return to the world he loves.
